Johnson Pond Info

Hope you don't mind me posting this.

" Drive 0.4 miles up Johnson Pond Rd, from its intersection with NY 9. Park on the left (north) side of the road and before a 30 MPH sign that is on the right. Cross the creek and walk 200' to the first boulder. There are 3-8 boulders, on state land, that have established problems. Good, clean rock."

I am looking forward to checking this out for myself.

Ensign Pond Area

There where only a handful of lines but what i saw i did like. I will be back here for sure. I did not find any of the other boulders that i have seen posted online.

This is a pretty sweet Roof feature that will have a good line or two. Pretty clean and the rock is of decent quality.

This may look like a pile but it is slighlty overhanging and will have 2 good lines for sure.

This is a super nice piece of rock. Steep tall and with a line of crimps trending to the right. The holds look pretty solid and if the stay this should be a super fun steep crimp line.

Here is another angle of the boulder above. From bottom to lip you should have atleast 12 feet of climbing on nice small crimps.

I looked around for only a few hours including the drive up and down the road. There where alot of hunters around and i did not want to push my luck with my dog running about. I stopped and looked at 3 different places that i saw rock but only one had anything of worth.
What I found is by no means going to be a destination but..... There is potential for it to be.
This is a 10 on the potential scale -- (there will be bouldering here) and as far as the quality of the area only time will tell but right now i'm thinking 5ish.

Johnson Pond Area

This area is off of exit 29. Last weekend I ended up taking a quick look around Johnson Pond area.
Although there is some good rock in the area the best stuff i saw was on private land. I did only have a quick look and my intrest is surley peaked with the potential that may be here. I would be intrested in where and what others have found in the area.
This boulder looked 2 star but sits between two no tresspassing signs.

It's pretty good sized and the closest face overhangings nicley.

This boulder was the first i saw of any value. the roof area good be pretty fun and the face pretty good two.

So I will be taking another drive up here and looking around abit.

Potash

Took a couple of hours and walked around potash proper. There is one boulder there that is pretty nice but i need to spend some more time looking around. To confirm it's worthlessness as a bouldering spot.  There are several great boulders that are just a few feet to short to be of any worth.  The rock is nice, the shapes are cool but...

Brant Lake Area

I have heard rumors of bouldering in the brant lake area. Spent the day up there driving around and looking for signs of boulders. there is some super good looking boulders on the west side of the lake but they are on private land. Like in some ones yard!! So another weekend of wasted gas.
Did hear of some peeps checking out a new area off from exit 29. Will keep you posted.

Potash Boulder

Head up to potash boulder to do an extensive look around. I hiked up to the top of Potash (very steep over grown ruble) and did in fact find another good size boulder. The potential is limited as it looks as though there would be 3 - 7 lines but on 2 or 3 would be of good quality. Good face climbing on vertical to slightly overhanging on mostly good size edges. There is another boulder behind it that looks like it could have one hard steep problem. This is a roof and squeeze style out the underside.  When I have time i will get the pics off my phone and post them up.
Also drove past crane mt by Garnet lake on Garnet Lake rd. I stayed on GL rd to circle back to Johnsburg via rt 8 and the back down S johnsburg rd. There are some cliff bands and some boulders in the woods but they appear to be on private land and with hunters every 10 feet i thought it best to keep in the car. As Garnet Lake rd winds up the mt. there are a few boulders to be seen in the woods on private land.

columbus day bust....

Hiked up and looked around the side of lake ave by hidden lake on the way up to luzerne from lake george. Nothing worth all the effort. There is a cliff band on the right side but is unaccessable due to hidden lake. I hiked up the hill side accross to get a better look. No luck here.

Earlier in the weekend i drove from scrhoon to omsteadville and down to warrensburg on all dirt and back roads. Tons of boulders everywhere and nothing bigger than a car. Turned up. I hiked 3 areas with no luck.

I need to map out these drives better so i do not repeat them over and over. I did drive several roads i had never been on.

Atwell Boulders

Atwell Boulders

There is a grouping of large boulders known locally as Monument Park. The area is mentioned in Discover the Southwestern Adirondacks, which led to its "discovery" for bouldering by Neal Knitel, who cleaned and climbed many problems in the area in 2008.

Follow the approach to Ice Cave Mountain, but continue across the steel bridge in Atwell, over the earthen dam, to a small dirt road on the right just past a camp. At the fork, take the left branch and drive over the outlet of a small beaver dam to a small road on the left. Turn left and drive to the end of this road. The road is rough and impassable in high water, so one may have to park before the end.

The boulders are scattered in the woods, the largest being Haystack. There are a dozen or so problems from V0 to V1, and many open projects

echo cliffs --- boulders and cliffs!

ECHO CLIFFS ON PANTHER MOUNTAIN

Drive west from the intersection of Routes 8 & 10 and turn right onto West Shore Road, it comes up in slightly less than 3 miles. You'll see the trailhead a few miles down the road on the left, and it will say "Trail To Panther Mt." (see Picture). It is about a half mile before Little Sand Point Campground.
The trail is well marked and easy to follow, although it may be a bit wet towards the bottom. You'll take a turn up the steep part of the mountain at a large boulder and head straight up to the cliffs. Make sure you follow the markers as there are many false paths.
Along the way you'll notice huge rock walls amidst the hemlock tree. When you reach the top you'll get a spectacular view of Piseco Lake.
Driving directions to RT-10 & RT-8, NY

Any feed back about the possibility of bouldering here. It is on my list of areas to check out.

Good Luck Cliffs

Info scoured from the interwebs
Good Luck Lake Cliffs, some great boulders at the base of the cliffs.
The Good Luck Cliffs trail climbs through a small gorge circling behind 500+ foot cliffs that lead to an overlook of the Adirondack foothills. The trailhead is on NY10 300 feet past a bridge over the Sacandaga River 6 miles north of the intersection with NY 29A.

Rumor has it the boulders are as blank as can be and even with all the great rock sitting there, there are almost no established problems. So I have confirmation of the size and quantity of boulders but my source says no climbing due to lack of holds.
Any info would be great.

stables boulder

The popular mt biking area in saratoga known as the stables has a small cliff band to boulder on. The rock is of good quality and is pretty solid. The problems tend to be fun with slabby topouts. The boulder/cliff has about 10 lines on it ranging from V1ish to V8. There are at least 2 projects above the V8 grade.
I know of no other potential in the area.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would have to say it's 5.
Please add some info for this area.

Baxter Mt.

Baxter mt hike
\The path to the summit can be accomplished casually in under an hour and offers a generally moderate grade. Along the way you'll see a nice variety of maples, paper birch balsams and hemlocks. Occasionally, you'll also see enormous glacial erratic boulders that offer a convenient spot to sit and rest. These boulders, left in place after the last ice age some 10,000 years ago, are layered in places with a luxurious carpet of emerald mosses that remain cool and moist throughout the day

Anyone done this hike and can confirm or deny the potential here???

Flat Rock mnt info

Flatrock Mountain is a bouldering area being developed by Neal Knitel. Parking is on NY 28, 1 mile south of the parking area described for Middle Settlement. The parking area is on what looks like the old NY 28.
The boulders are on the south side of NY 28 (same as the parking area), and are scattered over the northwest side of Flatrock Mountain. There are also some very short cliffbands that run parallel to the ridge which have potential for toprope climbs and highball problems. This area has significant potential, as there are countless boulders scattered through the woods.
The first boulder that was climbed is the house-sized boulder split in half 18T 494628 4835056, visible from the road as you approach the parking area from the south. There are 5 established problems here, with potential for more difficult problems on the overhanging side facing the road.
Another boulder just south of the house-sized boulder holds Horn-It, a problem involving a one-handed mantle to a slabby finish. 200 yards to the south is yet another boulder with several problems and projects. One is an overhanging fingercrack, and the other is a rounded arĂȘte to a friction finish.

this info was taken from the interwebs.

So the question is how much potential and to what end? Can anyone make some comments??

hey

so the idea will be to create a form that people in and around the adk's can post up bouldering areas, single boulders and potential bouldering areas. Pictures, video and descriptions. Share your secrets.
A frapper map will be attached to pin point areas.
